Re: Zebra wood SJ
That makes me wonder if the bridge wings reached all the way to the braces?

Re: Zebra wood SJ
I have looked for info on the affects of the X brace angle with only a limited amount of success. There seems to be more on the location of the X in relation to the sound hole and the bridge placement but not much on the X angle. Can anyone shed some light on this subject. I may post this question in another section to get some more feedback.

See above -- that configuration is know as the "banjo killer" pattern, I think that characterizes the effect nicely (bigger free moving diaphragm area) --- and yes you want to have the bridge wings sit on the "X" brace path. And of course, a little louder but does not necessarily mean that it sounds better.

Some update pics. A little cleaning up to do yet but I'm happy with the results so far.

What a great combination of woods Kyle. Looks great! So tell us how you did the wood purfling. I was just yesterday considering, maybe, possibily, even intentionally trying this on my current guitar build.

Re: Zebra wood SJ
Thanks Kevin. I cut the wood purfling using a cheap Xacto miter box and saw. Here are some pics of the set up and installation. Once the strips are cut it goes in just like shell purfling strips, break into place.

Re: Zebra wood SJ
What a great idea! I love that look! I have a couple of wild zebra sets waiting to be turned into something.....been more than 2 years since I built anything but a cutting board. Keep it going, beautiful looking guitar.
So, my big brother was playing guitar and I figured I'd try it too.
