Re: Band Saw Scarf cut jig.

I made one to use the slot, but didn’t think about making it as a sled. I think version 14.2 will have to borrow your idea, thanks for posting

Re: I want to build an Archtop...

The book, by itself, is not a complete guide. The plans filled in a lot of blanks. If I hadn’t built any instruments before I would have had some head scratching moments. They market a video by Benedetto that I didn’t get, but expect it covers some of the missing things, but....?? The Richard Heeres...

Just for grins, I compared it to willow (used in violin family blocks). Alder’s a little harder and “stronger” in most of the specs. Similar weight, specific gravity. I can’t see why it wouldn’t work. I’ve only used it a couple of times for odd projects and recall it being similar to birch.

Re: What is the best way to make a oil finish satin?

Another vote for scotch brite pads. I use grey with a little tru-oil or boiled linseed oil for lube. I did try tripoli and rottenstone as well, but liked the results with scotch brite pads best.

I haven’t found steel wool that is good quality for a while.
