Re: I want to build an Archtop...
It would be great to have a blog of anyone starting an archtop. I have been drawn to building a carved top instrument.

Rick - I'll have to start by building one of those planes.
It may be a little bit before I start carving, as I have 3 flat tops in line ahead of this project, but I'll try to do a thorough documentation of the process.

I too am looking forward to an extensive and well documented build blog with lots of pictures. No pressure of course. This is a link to a nice video, while not a how to video it is very enjoyable to watch. If a picture is worth a thousand words then a youtube video must be worth something. Building an arch top is definitely on my list. Good luck with your build.

Re: I want to build an Archtop...
Hey everyone,
Long time, no post. I noticed that Robbie O'Brien has a 10% discount on his and João Cassias' archtop course this month, and am thinking about pulling the trigger. I remembered this thread from last year and was wondering if anyone (John? Kevin?) had done a build? (sorry if I've missed it in my search)
Or if you have purchased the course and have any comments on it I'd appreciate your thoughts.
Is an archtop a little too ambitious for a still-novice builder?
Thanks!

Re: I want to build an Archtop...
Dave, alas, I have still not started my archtop, or any other guitar since my last post on this thread. I had the box of wood up on my bench again last week for the archtop but it is going to have to wait until August now.
And I have 4 other guitars to build. At basically one per year I have my work cut out for me.

No intent to take away from O’Briens course, but if you want a sense of the process the link below may be interesting. Richard Heeres is a maker in the Netherlands. The link is part 1 of a dozen or so on building an archtop.

I used the Benedetto book and plans, and these videos to help along the way. Still working on better photos of the finished product and sound clips but end result pretty satisfying.
