Layered Solid Linings

Here's a series of photos on how I do my linings lately. Got the idea from Bryan Bear on MIMF. I have quite a few Mahogany practice sides so they get cut into strips, three different widths, 1/2", 5/8" and 3/4", before bending in the side bender.

Side reinforcement is done with straight 1/2" strips first, then the bent 3/4" pieces are cut to fit in between. I use kitchen shears (bought new ones for the kitchen ). The sides have already had the bus driven to shape them. I use 30' for the tops and 15' for the backs. Each layer is glued slightly proud of the sides edge.

The second 5/8" layer is much easier and quicker except for watching the glue dry .

Those Harbor Freight clamps are quite colorful aren't they ?

One more round of driving the bus and on to top and back. The spreader can then be removed, the solid linings make the sides very stiff.

Nice Carl, the stepped lining looks neat. Keeps from a clumsy appearance.
