Thin soundboard

Hi guys,

I have a Adirondack spruce soundboard that I discarded from my first build because I thicknessed it too thin and unequally. Some spots are around 0.085 in. I think we're usually looking for 0.10 to 0.125 right? So my question is, is it still usable and can I compensate with stiffer braces?

make a classical or a ukulele! Too thin for a steel string. The braces will really telegraph through the top. Also the main voice of the guitar is the top, I will not spend all the time it takes to build a guitar and compromise on the top.

Second that. It can be used for a very small guitar or a Maccaferri Gypsy one.
Or use it as a resource for central strips cutted cross grain.

I didn’t know what a Maccaferri gypsy was. I looked it up and it’s a manouche jazz guitar right? I don’t quite understand why these could tolerate a thinner top.

I’m thinking of making a smaller guitar for my grandson.

Excellent plan Geo

A maccaferri gypsy guitar has a 2 mm thick top. But is has a massive bracing below.
Here is the one I made:
