How thin back of Granadillo?

I have this beautiful set of Granadillo.
Very ringy, poreless, and expensive. But it is soooo dense. About as dense as water. (1000kg/m3).
It is going into a crossover guitar with a classical body. I don't want the guitar to feel heavy, so my plan is to thin the back some extra. Question: Normally I thin backs around 0.1"(2,5mm), but dare I (you) go to a 0.08"( 2mm)?

I never have had a piece. If it is like Macacauba a relative, I could see taking Granadillo to 2.0 mm. I have done so with African Blackwood and Honduras Rosewood both dense/stiff wood.

This is what is written somewhere on the net:
"Platymiscium yucatanum: Granadillo that is indigenous to the Yucatan peninsula of southern Mexico, Belize and northern Guatemala and is known for more saturated color tones and frequent figuring in the logs. Found to be slightly denser than the other granadillo species."

"Slightly denser"??? I can hardly lift the boards...

I normally go to .09 with rosewood and walnut with tall narrow bracing. I think a sturdy wood like that would handle .08. I have a set that I am looking forward to using.

As I recall, I took the back of my Granadillo dreadnaught down to about .08". Still a bit on the heavy side but is sounds great. I did have some issues with some weak fracturing in the wood but I was able to repair it and ended up flooding the weak area with CA glue. Gave it a good bounce test of the concrete floor in my shop and it held up just fine.)

Beautiful guitar Jim. Thanks for sharing. I think 0.08" is on the thin side and still it will be a heavy guitar. As the cocobolo baritone I have. Some things in life you have to accept.

Both sets of wood look like it is worth a bit of extra weight. Jim your guitar looks great. CA does work really well for on the grain cracks and checks on these rosewood like hardwoods. Totally invisible at any level of inspection.
