How does one bind a headstock, especially around the sharply curved areas that approach the nut?

By hand?

Thanks,

Eric

I always thought this was a good strategy for plastic and fiber trim:

Ken:

Thanks! Looking at the photo, I believe that your tool could be used to cut the channels? Have you had success with that?

Honestly, I never tried to channel a head-stock with the hand held IA attachment, perhaps others will have input?

Have just bound this headstock for a ukulele that's nearly finished.

I use my laminate trimmer to rout the channel.

I then glue the purflings in with ca and then bend the bindings on a hot pipe until they fit the curves as close as possible.
I mitre the bindings and glue them in - also with ca.

My quick and dirty hot pipe is a 12" long piece of scaffolding tube clamped to the bench, I heat the exterior of the tube with a blow lamp until water sizzles and dances on the surface and then bend, the tube wall thickness is nearly 3/16", so the pipe holds its heat long enough to do most bends, or I reheat. Hope this helps.
