IA Binding Router Modification

Post by David L » Fri Feb 10, 2012 1:48 am

Through multiple adjustments, tightening and loosening the wing nuts on the router fixture, the square part of the bolt that prevents the bolt from spinning in the slot has wollowed out the slot making tightning the bolt a PITA, so I came up with a solution.

First I made two aluminun rail inserts.

Next I modified the fixture itself.

Drew lines where material needed to be removed.

Routed out the excess material to allow for the aluminun shims.

Accidentally routed oversized and had to add walnut shims to each side.

Once the walnut shims were glued in I epoxied the alumunun rails in place.

Now the square part of the bolt locks up against the aluminun rails and doesn't spin as I tighten the wing nuts making adjustments quick and easy.

Or --- you can put the head of the bolt in the base and the wing-nut and washer on the guide. I'll put this option in the instructions, its the way the guide is "locked" on the table model - Thank you
