new J185

I am working on my second J185 and have the sides bent and assembled with the end blocks and the kerfing. I have a couple of places where the sides have "rippled" and was wondering if adding additional side braces had any detriment to the sound. Different builders seem to use varying numbers of braces and I am hoping that I can flatten the sides out by the use of well placed braces. Any thoughts?? Thanks, Tim

There is a school of thought that a more robust rim is a good idea -- I doubt you'd hear any difference adding more side reinforcements. On the other hand I am not to sure that will control the ripples very well. Likely they will have to be sanded/scraped out. I've had fair success eliminating ripples that I've notice before assembly, by re-bending after a good soaking with "Super Soft" veneer flattening solution.

Hey Ken, I do have enough thickness to get most of that out by sanding/scraping but I would like to get it as flat as possible before I sand. What is Super Soft veneer flattening solution? Thanks

Super Soft 2 is a another brand name of this stuff -- I've had marginal results preventing/eliminating bend ripples with its use
