I have a couple of pix below that show how I attached the cork 'gaskets' to the forms using masking tape and CA. Put the masking tape on the cork, and on the form. Then run a bead of CA on the tape that is on the cork, then just press the tape-backed cork onto the mold. It grips like crazy and the good thing is - to remove the cork you just grab the tape and pull it off. Had you glued the cork directly to the form and wanted to replace the cork, it would be a task I'd like to just not do.

Anyway - I only had time to do two pieces of lining - using CA NOT TB. The CA seeps in and does the job in 30 seconds, as opposed to 2 hours for the TB. I have yet to find any discouraging words about using CA for this purpose. So in the morning I will do the other 2 lining pieces in about 10 minutes.

Cool Dave. Why do you need the cork? Couldn't it be done without it?

I'm following Bogdanovich on the cork thing. I questioned it also, but can only speculate that any irregularities in mating surfaces would be attenuated by the cork.
Because I decided to use the CA, I covered the cork with packing tape. It works just fine.

Also in the a.m., I'll use a 1/4" roundover bit to relieve the sharp edges on the linings - the visible part - and put on a little shellac.

Rounded over the edges, sanded a bit, brushed on a light coat of amber shellac. The strip to the right of the can is the original maple.

Dave,

Such an interesting project. Many questions, but will ask just one at a time. First off: Why are you laminating using a mold and clamps when you have a fabulous vacuum system?

I do have a good vacuum system; however, I just gotta be me, and me likes to build new jigs and try new approaches. No other reason that that!

Next question: Do you feel there are advantages to laminated sides as opposed to solid wood? Disadvantages?
