Thanks! Yes the TO does give that warmth, but to get it right the shine needs to be knocked down repeatedly to give the 'in the wood' type of look rather than the 'film on top' type of look. Both looks are fine with me but I do lean to the warm sheen rather than the high gloss. Just a matter of taste, plus I doubt I could do a high gloss anyway. Both Eric and I did rub the shellac until our arms fell off; we had to hire a bunch of street people to come in and rub it until THEIR arms fell off and ours grew back; quite a process.

Sounds like you went through a lot of arms!
The guitar looks great! Its going to be a great feeling watching him strum the first chord on that thing! I have never seen my own face when I strum the first notes, but I bet I have a big, goofy grin each time! Actually...I don't want to see that. But it would be fun to see it on another person's face!

Actually I don't teach my students to build instruments to be - how you say? - Ah yes, 'strummed.' Strumming is either (and I pronounce that 'either' not 'either') for gap-toothed country crooners that wear big hats to cover their baldness and those hats also dip down far enough to hide their blood-shot eyes and alcohol-pocked noses, OR 'strumming' is for Burl Ives-type crooners who do know at most 2 'chords' and sing songs like Paul Anka's monster hit "You're having my baby' with the touching line:
"The need inside you
I see it showin'
Whoa, the seed inside ya, baby,
do you feel it growin'? Are you happy you know it?"
No, my instruments are crafted to be played with fingerpicks the way the Muses intended it.
I don't mean any of this, by the way, except that that song is perhaps the worst thing ever written, compared to "You can keep your hat on" which IS the greatest song ever written.
All in good fun and designed to make Ray laugh out loud. :-)

Should not have hit the 'submit' button I guess!; but then, should I live my life wondering if Tony - of all people! - will diss me for having fun/being silly on the Forum? I think not. :-)
Good-natured ribbing.
