Best to contact the supplier -- I think the higher wattage heats faster -- which is a nice feature, I believe the that max temperature is the same, that would be good info to get from the horse's mouth.

Why would you need to remove the adhesive? I have mine fastened to the pipe with high temperature metal foil tape.

There's no need at all to remove the adhesive - it would, in fact, give you better contact with the bending pipe.
Only mentioning that if someone wanted to have a non-adhesive backed version, instead of compromising on what model they purchased, they can easily remove the adhesive backing from the Omega models ending in "-P"

Ordered the 6x6 blanket I mentioned from McMaster-Carr. I'll post pictures when it gets done.

Digging through my 'inventory' of house wiring electrical stuff, I found I have a shiny-new-in-the-box made-in-USA by Power Controls Corporation 600-watt single-pole toggle dimmer switch, which has two black wires coming out of the back. I suspect it's old enough to vote. No ground wire, no ground post. Instructions on the box suggests that it doesn't matter which wire coming out of the wall goes to which wire on the dimmer, just a break in series. I read Ken's comments about wiring the timer/dimmer/outlet and it appears to this non-electrician that I can use this dimmer to regulate the heat of the heat blanket. Anybody know enough about wiring safety to tell me if I'm fixing to do something inappropriate?

Moving right along....is that thickwalled aluminum tubing used for anything I might find at Lowe's/hardware store? Closest surplus metal yard is an hour away from me, and if the tubing can be bought at the consumer level it would be very nice to know what to search out.

Is there anything uniquely useful about a 1-hour timer? Any reason not to purchase a 30-minute or 15-minute version?
