Dave I like that tool -- seems like great quality for the price.

Peter --- yes, size matters, an 8" shooting sander is rather useless in our craft. If I made one it would be perhaps 24" The 24" level (aluminum) suggestion is also a good one, provided there is no bow.

If anyone is sitting on the fence, an added incentive is that Lee Valley is offering free shipping for orders of $40+, starting today.

The 16" shooting sander, (or is it a sanding shooter) qualifies!

The plane I bought is a No7 one. About 22" long. On even wood it works superb, and I like the curls. On very wavy wood, like curly maple, the sander works better. Most of the times I start with the plane and end with the sander.

I've got a Bailey #6 waiting to be restored, hoping it gives me better jointing then the number #5., but I always finish up with a sanding beam so I like the looks of this thing.

Okay I'm sold, and I do love free shipping. Looks like it comes with enough sandpaper to handle quite a few joints but I recently got this bargain box of adhesive rolls from Klingspoor's:

For the price of two refills from Veritas I've got enough PSA rolls for a very long time and they sent a nice assortment of useful grits in fairly long rolls. Most are wider than the shooter sander but should be easy to cut in half.
