My very first build a Prewar Dread

Mr. Hermann,

I took some pieces of center strip to a small laser engraving shop. I waited and glued it through the sound hole. But I had 3 of them printed. They were 9.00 a piece for the engraving. But it added a nice personal touch.

I am in finishing mode right now. I am not completely satisfied but, I will have to realize my first job can't be perfect. I used the cardinal pore filler first. It reminded me of shining brand new dull Army boots for the first time. Then I went to a local hobby shop and bought Z-Poxy. I did that once. Sand and scraped it all off to the wood. Then I put a light thin coat on just the sides with a squee gee. After I was done, I wiped it down with lacquer thinner and rubbed the scotchbrite in a circular pattern. It seemed to blend more of my mistakes. Then I sprayed it with Vinyl sealer. My biggest problem was my sides were not perfectly level after I bound it. The Z-poxy and the pearloid side bindings don't pair well. I like the product, just not with pearloid. I won't use pearloid again.

Note to anyone that buys an IWATA LHP-80 off eBay without a cup. They are a great deal for 150.00, but the British thread doesn't fit anything I own. So I am waiting for an adapter before I can use it. I want to spray my Cardinal Niro with that gun.

This finishing process has been the most difficult process of the whole thing for a first timer. I am sure I am "preaching to the choir."

I am thinking of using Behler extra dark walnut toner aerosol to blend this mahout neck to my side wood. Are any of you familiar with this color. there is not much in way of photos on the net. But they have it at Woodcraft.

Down in Texas is is kind of habit. More of a term of respect for someone with whom you have no relation. But since you said call you Hermann, we are less formal now :) . BTW, I listened to that Baritone you built, amazing. I definitely have plans for one.

I would love to build a J-28SL. But no plans floating around for that 17.5 in lower bout grand jumbo Martin as of yet.

I shot a some nitro today. I got 3 coats about an hour apart. I have to leave town until Thursday, I am sure it will be fine. Then sand her and 3 more. I am not finishing the neck at the moment, I am waiting on my fretboard. When that is done, I will finish that.
