Scroll Saw for Perloid Shell

Post by Dude13 » Fri Mar 27, 2026 10:35 am

Has anyone put a spiral blade on a good scroll saw and tried cutting perloid shell material? I’ve decided not to go the CNC route but I would like an easier way to cut my logo out of shell. I’ve always used a jeweler’s saw but it does seem like I could do it a liitle easier with a scroll saw.

It should work, I tried it, (spiral blade) and went back to just using a jewelers saw. My issue was having a hard time holding on to small parts as the blade went both up and down. I could have glued the shell to a thin backing board, but gluing it on and ungluing plus my horrible skill with a scroll saw sent me back to the jewelers saw.
