Hi,
I've been thinking a lot about what kind of inlay I would put on my guitar's headpiece. My last name? Just the first letter? A logo? Which one? I can't find the perfect design for it, something that I would still find nice in 20 years from now. I know this is something very personal and it's a matter of taste but I'd be curious to hear about what is or was your thought process about your branding.
Looking forward to read you!
Dominic

Re: Choosing a logo
I just use a "C" that I cut out of MOP or Pau Abalone. I went through the fonts in Word and bolded and italicized a bunch until something looked good to me and would not be too hard to rout out a pocket for. The font was also used to make a business card size label to put on the inside at the back.

Re: Choosing a logo
I started out with a very nice pre-made round abalone and MOP with an S in it made by DePaule. Then the started getting pricey so I started cutting out my own brush script "S" out of woods that contrasted the headplate. Then 4 guitars ago I graduated to a MOP hand cut, again done by DePaule in Vietnam; my last name.
I had enough made (22) to do all the guitars I have left in me.
I liked them all but I'm most proud to put my actual name on my guitars now.

Re: Choosing a logo
Dominic,
Well, that is a hassle for every beginning builder. I tried several things, letters, logo and graphics.
For me the search lasted till about my 15th guitar. After that I use a common font from my last name letter. It appeals to me and is relatively easy to cut out. Even in figured woods. For some time I cut the logo myself, but as Kevin does, now I order it at Andy dePaul. From Vietnam they make a bunch for 10-12 dollar a piece. Compared to the price of a decent piece of MOP and the work to be done, it is not very expensive.
Let it grow.
