Sloped Shoulder Dreadnought Spruce/Bosse Cedar with sound

Post by Herman » Sun Jan 10, 2021 10:49 am

No 34, A big one. A 12 fret dreadnought. In the 30's made for hawaian music and later on adopted by those who wanted more volume. Made after a Collings DS2H plan. The Bosse Cedar looks and feels like Mahogany, but sound wise it resembles more like Rosewood. I thought it would bend very tough, but it worked very easy.

Top - German Spruce
B/S - Bosse Cedar
Neck - Honduran Mahogany
Fingerboard - Cocobolo
Bridge - Padouk
Headstock - Cocobolo
Tuners - Gotoh 381
Binding - Flamed maple
Finish - Nitrocellulose
Pickup - JJB Prestige 330

Here are some sounds:

Great looking and sounding guitar. I love the shape of the guitar and the 12 fret join. The Martin D shape always looks like a regular guitar was cut lengthwise with 2 inch bit added in the middle. Where as this looks like a nicely designed large guitar. Your work on it is impeccable.

Once again, great workmanship. And I also like the 12 fret dread, though sitting down to play is kind of a struggle for me, with that 5" lower bout.
Good sound also, thanks.

Thanks maties,

Yes, it is a lot of guitar. 5" deep indeed. Its sound is a matter of taste. If you like deep and warm, this is the way to go. If you like crisp and defined sounds, go make a triple-O or OM.
