Safety advice please

Post by Dave Bagwill » Fri Mar 27, 2020 5:13 pm

General question - for a particular setup in the shop, I need to have my router bit about 1/2" above the collet. Is that safe?
In other words, can the shank be pulled out a bit to extend the height of the bit? I don't need an extender, I'm only talking around 1/2" more shank than I would normally see.

The interesting end is the end in the collet, Depending on the collet it should be just in from the end. So if there is a long shank it will stick out more. I not sure i would trust the bit only partially in the collet.

The picture is just one off of the net. I'm talking about an exposed shank of about 1/2", nothing like in the pic.
I think it'll be fine. Thanks.

I agree. As long has the bit is properly in the collet, it does not mater how much shank is exposed.
