Effects of shallower body

Post by Dave Bagwill » Thu Feb 02, 2017 11:57 pm

Question - take for instance a Ditson dred - and then make the body 1" deeper.

What would be the gains? What would be the losses?

Not a Ditson, but you get the idea:

I meant, of course, make the body on the dred - or any acoustic guitar shape = 1" SHALLOWER.

Or 1 1/2". It's the principles involved that I'm wondering about.

A deeper body gains the bass. I played a few J sized jumbo's, next to M sized.
I like the shallower M ones. They are as I recall 1/2" shallower. Much more definition. Deep bodies Sound boomy to me.
