Acceptable soundboard moisture

Post by peter havriluk » Fri Dec 04, 2015 12:46 pm

I've bought a few soundboard from a vendor who described the wood as '<10%' moisture. Is that a 'ready to use' value? If not, what should I confirm before purchase?

Thanks very much.

Peter, below 10% should be in the ok zone. But some scepsis is always useful. Store the wood in your shop for 1-2 weeks for some extra confidence. And a moisture content meter is available from 15 bucks.

Good luck

My $15 moisture meter is pretty crappy -- I don't trust it a bit.

An acceptable way to measure if the wood has acclimated to your shop conditions is to weigh the wood.

Once the weight stops changing, it will have acclimated to the climate where it's stored.
