Type of neck wood in this pic?

What kind of wood is that neck made of?
I am impressed by the preciseness of the fit, especially since there is no heel cap.

I'm guessing a dovetail. It does look nice

It is a dovetail, Kevin. I don't know how he got such a good fit without dishing the cheeks, then again I've not worked with a dovetail before - maybe it makes a difference?

I've not used a dovetail yet myself....and I don't plan on doing one. But yeah, that is a really nice fit on that one

If the assertion is that one needs to use a dove tail to achieve such a fit -- I totally disagree. As a matter of fact I think a MT would be easier for sure and could yield the same results. Looks to me like that heel was made oversize and then shaved to fit the body at the cut.

I've seen lots of good fitting m/t - but I haven't seen a m/t without a heel cap. I suppose they're out there, I just haven't seen 'em. The way I dish the cheeks, I need the heel cap.
