Shellac contained wax

Post by Renee Labordus » Wed May 21, 2014 9:47 pm

The shellac I was assured contained no wax. So after I applied it to the sides and back, I found out differently.
How much trouble am I in. And what is the remedy.

Thanks,
Renee

Unless you are going to use a water borne finish it really does not matter -- the purists make a big deal about that because they mix their own shellac. But its just an adhesion issue for some top coats in the poly and WB families of coatings. So relax and enjoy the finishing process. I assume you are going to French Polish. We have recommended videos in this section and a few members have done really nice FP finishes. That said, I would recommend getting the more pure shellac or mixing your own before you continue on.

Renee - hi and welcome to the forum!

May I ask what brand of shellac you used?
Thanks.

thanks Ken, and yes I plan on doing a French polish top.

Dave, I used Zinsser Bulls Eye Shellac. Traditional finish & sealer.
