I use the small shaves for a lot of things - removing glue and other crap from the work bench or other areas, little jobs around the house, as well as getting into the waist curve when I'm trimming back the top or back of the guitar. I've not used a planer so I can't comment on that.

You can just buy 1, they do the same thing the same way, I grab whichever is nearest and sharpest :-)

3/8" bendable plywood, laminated together over an outside form :-) Here is a pic from Brian Burns since I don't have a pic of my own.
