Where did you get the pearl? I am tempted to use ZipFlex for its ease of use, but when I compare the price of it versus real shell from DePaule, it's a no brainer. I always go with the real thing from Andy. It comes to about half the price of zipflex.
You did an excellent job with the pearl. Looks great.

Tony, Duke Luthier. It comes out to less than $30 to do a top purfling...no kidding.
With the teflon spacers this was very easy to do, and fun too I thought.

I get all my pearl/abalone rosettes from him. He 's just a short ways from me in South Carolina. And BTW that guitar displays some gorgeosity, can't wait to see it strung up.Kevin in California wrote:Tony, Duke Luthier. It comes out to less than $30 to do a top purfling...no kidding.

Yes Tony, the shell is a little thinner but is works fine, and it is solid shell.

Re: A EIR Dred in the D45 tradition
Okay, I pretty much got this one done on Saturday. All I have left to do is to bring the string height down to a final at the nut. I wanted to let it sit a couple of days to see what the neck will do. I have the action set about medium at the 12th fret. I put Earthwood medium lights on.
The first sounds out? This guitar is LOUD, but it can be finger picked softly too. The overtones are subdued, but there is tons of sustain. It has a bright, rich even sound. The bass may not be as present as I'd like, but at least it is not boomy or over done.
I probably won't get a picture shoot in the yard done until this coming Saturday. In the mean time I'll see if I can get a sound clip made on the computer for you all. Last time I tried it I couldn't upload the file, and I'm not a Utube guy.
So final pics to come this weekend and perhaps you'll get to hear it too.

This is just a test.
If it works, I'll endeavor to put a clip of my simplistic playing of this guitar later in the week once I get the nut finalized.
