I have heard it said that 3" from the rim to the peak of the scallop is optimal. I do however see bracing schemes where that peak is anywhere from 1" to 5" from the rim.
Comments or insights, please!

I've been told and seen some variances in that. Don't know if there is a right answer or it's another "preference" issue.

I think Tony knows more about scallops than he lets on, but he's just being shellfish about sharing.

I believe Roger Siminoff says to just cut them off -- seems his experiments indicate they serve no purpose.

John Arnold, Wayne Henderson and Martin have or have had a somewhat different opinion on that point if you read the 2nd post below...on the D-18 ...it gives detailed info if we're talking about the same thing....of course in their humble opinion, YMMV Yadda yadda yadda....
