Best location of scallop peaks?

Post by Dave Bagwill » Wed Jan 09, 2013 11:55 am

I have heard it said that 3" from the rim to the peak of the scallop is optimal. I do however see bracing schemes where that peak is anywhere from 1" to 5" from the rim.

I've been told and seen some variances in that. Don't know if there is a right answer or it's another "preference" issue.

I think Tony knows more about scallops than he lets on, but he's just being shellfish about sharing.
That's all I got - a pun of the cheapest variety.

I believe Roger Siminoff says to just cut them off -- seems his experiments indicate they serve no purpose.

John Arnold, Wayne Henderson and Martin have or have had a somewhat different opinion on that point if you read the 2nd post below...on the D-18 ...it gives detailed info if we're talking about the same thing....of course in their humble opinion, YMMV Yadda yadda yadda....
Then...I don't know sh.....uhhhhh.... you don't want me polishing your shoes! :>)
