See any problem with using this wood as long as its quartersawn with the grain orientation correct?

Dry and stable -- no need for 1/4 sawn, just about any wood can be used.

The board I have is 13/16" thick and I thought maybe I could make 3 cuts and get back and sides out of it, but it will be pretty close!!

By design the KMG neck blocks and some of the tail blocks are laminated -- stronger and more stable -- just a thought for you.

Re: African Mahogany for neck and end blocks
For one Les Paul I used African Mahogany (Khaya) (10 dollar) for the other I used Honduran (125 dollar). The Honduran one sounds unamplified sooo much better. African is harder and heavier, but much less ringy. I would use the African for necks if I had less to spend, because it is very stable, but soundwise (IMHO) it is no competition.
But for blocks I agree with Ken. I use the african there too.
