Repair question - broken off headstock

Post by Dave Bagwill » Thu Dec 27, 2012 9:23 pm

Got a call from someone who has an acoustic guitar that has a snapped off headstock, right behind the nut. Described as a 'clean break."

I'm not a repair guy, so can I get some advice on how this particular repair would be done? Understanding that the cosmetics would not be perfect.

Thanks

Carefully dry fit the pieces to check the fit (you don't want any slivers to break out or off. Then, slather the joint with titebond and clamp. Shape and location will dictate how you want to do this. Clean up the squeeze out. On this the customer just wanted it glued back and didn't want the seams or finish touched up. He was from NY and his grandson knocked it over when he was down here visiting in NC. I had it back to him in a day.
