Hi everyone, I am ready to start spraying the clear coat on my guitar, which has a slotted head stock. I'm afraid that when spraying the slots on the head stock that I will get run in the clear coat. Does anyone have any suggestions on what is the best way to finish a slotted head stock, and with no runs. I'm using lacquer in rattlecans.
Thanks
Charlie

Re: Finishing a slotted head stock
Maybe mask off the headstock, and put 5-6 coats in the slots....let them dry a day or two, sand off the tape lines, then finish the rest of the neck like you normally would. Haven't done it before, but if I wanted to make extra sure the slots got good and coated, thats what I would do. Otherwise, I would count on them getting enough over spray, and probably not sand and polish them to the same extent as the rest of the neck.
So, my big brother was playing guitar and I figured I'd try it too.

Just fabricate a comfortable work handle so its easy to orient the neck -- don't get too close with the nozzle, spray inside out (front and back) and all will be fine. I don't think you need 12 coats of finish on the insides of the slots. $.02

Re: Finishing a slotted head stock
Hi everyone
Thanks for your replys. I do have a way to hold and turn the guitar while I'm spraying it. I think I will just be careful while I'm spraying and see how it works out.
Thanks again, and may all have a great day tomorrow on thanksgiving. We all have much to be thankful for.
