Six gun guitars has a number of interesting youtube vids.

These three are a short series on a pore filling technique that looks pretty simple and has worked for him.
Let us know what you think. I'm going to try it on scrap when I get a free day.

No time yet to see the video, but I have pore filled with shellac and pumice on EIR. It is part of FP. Rubbing with the pumice and shellac creates a slurry of pumice and wood dust bound with shellac. I have also seen furniture makers make a slurry with wood dust and shellac and push it into the pores.

I'd really like to hear your comments after viewing the vids, John, when you get the time.

I would use the method to give a good clear pore fill to apply my tru-oil to.

I am not so sure about this for wood with large pores. Even a 3 lb cut dries thin. ALso brushing it on may leave trapped air in the pores. No danger trying though. It seems to work for him.

I'm dubious about this method too, it may work on woods with tiny pores like mahogany, but I'd like to see him use this method on rosewood, ash or oak.

Shellac also shrinks with time and it would be interesting to see his finish after several months. The few times I have sanded shellac I have found it to be a nightmare as it clogs the paper in seconds and can then leave deep scratches.

My preferred method is to use Zpoxy finishing resin - non shrink, good fill and sands easily. Why make life more difficult?

Thanks for the input fellas. A couple of the other procedures he recommends also look a little iffy to me.
I was hoping this one would work, but I understand your concerns and I'm going to steer clear of it.
