I just finished my first build -- KMG OM

I just finished my first build. I have quite a bite of errors and I have learned quite a bit. Walnut back and sides. Engleman face. I purchased a maple burl piece used for gunstock. It was too small for theneck head so I split it in half, not too easy without a bandsaw. It was my first attempt at veneering. I then ordered some ebony banding from stew mac to edge it. The bending was learning experience. 1 side split and I used epoxy to repair it. Nonetheless, I'm really happy. The guitar sounds really good. Needs some tweeking, which I'm doing little by little. From everything that I have read, Walnut takes some time to open up. The kit was purchased from KMG as well as the additions to get started form, clamps, etc. A wonderful experience. Ken was always helpful the few times I sought his assistance.

Excellent -- Congratulations, getting that first one completed is a great feeling. Hope you have plans for more. Walnut is a very nice tone-wood to my ear very much like Honduran Mahogany.

I am sure like me, the members would like to see some pictures -- try and get some posted and we'll move this thread over to the Gallery.

Congratulations! It is not an easy process, is it? But so rewarding, and you learn so much the first build. I hope you can muster the nerve to post some pictures - don't worry, we don't criticize, 'cause we've all been there.

Even if you don't post pix, once again - good for you! You are now a member of the Fellowship of the String.
I just made that up, but probably someone beat me to it. :-)
Dave

Do we call you jknaster?

Very attractive build, JM! First effort? You must have a background in woodworking or some excellent help - most first builds don't look anywhere near that nice.
In any case, great work, thanks for the pix.

It looks great JM, I love the headstock veneer, it's a huge milestone to get the first one done, so congratulations.
