KMG L-OO build

Post by BRMoon » Sun May 06, 2012 9:26 am

Here's a couple pics of my completed L-OO kit from KMG. This is the deep body Nick Lucas L-OO, 14 frets to the body, 12" radius, 3-piece laminated neck, 24 3/4 scale, matching back stripe. Gotoh slothead tuners. I stained the top with Zar wipe on stain, sealed with shellac and finished with Minwax clear gloss lacquer. I normally use behlen stringed insrument lacquer, but decided to try something else. Turned out pretty good, leveled easily. I do think, however, that the behlen pre-cat dries harder. Thanks to Ken for his assistance. Next up - Ditson dread.

I really like the way you gave this project some vintage flavor -- well done! How about some pixs of the head-stock that looks like it has some interesting details. I too had some good results with the Minwax lacquer --- what did you think about the odor? I'd say at least different!

Nice looking guitar! The OO is the size I am looking to build as my own personal guitar. I love the vintage look yours has.
