Inexpensive fret saw?

Post by Dave Bagwill » Tue Apr 24, 2012 10:10 pm

Is there such a thing? I don't plan on slotting a lot of fretboards, but I want to do a good job on the couple or so I do.

I use a Japanese pull saw, cuts beautifully and clean. Many other uses too besides fret slots.

I bought a small Japanese saw at HF for about $12 and did my first 3 fretboards with it, worked fine and it is the right kerf....023 I believe. It will flex so use a guide or miter box.

I use the stew-mac fret saw but I bought about 60-70 5" power blades with a .023 kerf to build a fret board cutting jig, one pass and all the slots would be cut. I'll probably get around to building it when I retire in June.

Retirement = good.

That jig = awesome. Unless you're pulling my leg, which also would be awesome. :-)
