Interesting fixture -- pretty bold doing back and top at the same time -- or maybe that's presumptuous on my part?

Hmmm..I assumed he had some faux binding on the other side as a place holder. I also don't quite make out what that tool is in his right hand.

I googled 'spudger" and still don't know what it is.
