Acoustic Guitar Construction

Folks,

I've used the same 1/4" downcut spiral router bit to cut the binding channels on four guitars and am about to start binding my fifth. I have no idea how long the bits last and how to determine when one ought to be retired.

Suggestions?

Keep it clean and it will last for many more binding jobs than four. I clean the bit after every binding session. I place the bit is a container with "Simple Green" for 10 minutes or more. Expensive cleaners are not necessary. Use a toothbrush to clean the cutting surfaces. You will find that a carbide bit will last almost indefinitely IF YOU CLEAN IT!

Thanks for the advice. I hadn't any idea that the longevity/clean relationship existed.
