Acoustic Guitar Construction

A lot of people making bolt on pre-route the tenon for the top. It helps remove a scary operation on a closed guitar body. While thinking about it I thought what about the end graft on a classical or an end wedge on the tail block before assembly. On my classical guitars it is rectangular so super easy. My thought was to glue it on the block square. Cut the side not to join in the center but to but up tight against the graft. When gluing on the sides I always make sure my top is flat to the bench or work board. Butting the sides tight against the end graft would help assure they were square and I could make sure there was a clean joint. I have not thought of any negatives vs cutting or routing a slot in the tail of the guitar. I am embarrassed to say how my times my saw slipped forcing me to chase a deep scratch. With a bit of care the same could be achieved with a wedge.

I've actually done that with a v-wedge, and it worked out fine. I'm using rectangular end-wedges on almost everything nowadays though.
