Woodcraft has these on sale for a hundred bucks this month. I've noticed pictures of these in use, and S-M would love to sell me one. So...is this tool a worthwhile shop addition or another special-use doodad that will be seldom used?
Thanks!

I have the SM version and it is the most used vise in my shop.
I've "Ben-Had" again!

I use mine everyday, it is basically a third hand for me. Wheat makes it useful is the pivoting jaws that allows me to hold nearly anything.

I have that same one, and love it. One of my most used tools.
It was really nice to add the threaded studs from the StewMac version #1834 - as the stock bolts would often loosen or tighten as I rotated the jaws. Threaded studs with lock nuts and washers let you set the jaw tension and it doesn't change.

Re: patternmaker's vise?
And I thought I had this thing all thought out. Turns out that the center post, while fitting nicely in the predrilled holes on the top to my HF workbench, can't coexist with the drawers in the workbench.
Suggestions?
In the absence of anything more thoughtful, I have a notion to attach a top extension alongside the existing benchtop so's the center post and its mounting cup don't foul the drawers and have free air to allow for the cup.
Better idea will be very welcome.
Thanks, folks.
