Bending iron mod?

Post by Dave Bagwill » Thu Dec 27, 2018 1:54 am

Did someone here mention a product or technique for adding a 'doo-dad' on top of your existing bending iron, so that the doo-dad would bend a tighter radius than the big iron?

It depends on which bending iron. Stewmac's bending iron takes an optional small radius pipe that screws on the the end of the bender. It is good for binding but not long enough for guitar sides. I use it.

Aha - thanks. First, I'd better get the iron, I reckon.

Dave, I did that on my home built electric pipe bender. I strapped using hose clamps a 2" pipe on top of the 3.5" pipe. I helps, but of course you can only wrap it as tight as the larger pipe will allow, but you can heat the tight bend and then flex it tighter off the pipe...can you see what I mean?
