Bigger is usually better. Especially since the software is not responsive to small viewports.
With today's larger screens and fast connections, as long as the pix is a JPEG or some other compressed format, there is no trouble downloading it. Don't know the space limitations of the server account, though. That could be an issue.
As far as You Tube goes, there is no penalty associated with size, since it is merely a URL that is carried here. The tiny windows of the past obscured small scale detail that we are now accustomed to seeing.

Yeah, Ken always preferred 640 pix wide images. But my screen does a better job with, lets say the double.
