1/3 hp motor for disc sander?

Post by Dave Bagwill » Thu Nov 16, 2017 3:06 pm

I'm wanting to re-purpose a bandsaw motor that is laying around - is 1/3 hp sufficient to power a 12" disc sander?

Hmm, the one I built I used a 1hp and it is a beast. I'd think 1/3 may be fine

Oh I have some plans. They were adapted to be a bench top unit, as the plans are for mounting on a lathe,
I think I've shown it before, but let me get that for you.

Dave, do you have a disc? I got mine on Ebay for about $23 shipped, it was new/old stock for a Shopsmith.
If you want to make a 9", I have a disc you can have for the shipping cost. I'm pretty sure it fits a standard motor shaft.
