bridge pin hole slotting

So...seems like slotting the bridge pin hole so solid pins can be used is a good idea. I'm all for good ideas that don't have dollar signs attached. I think I figured out that the slot has to be wide enough so the wrapped string end fits into the slot. My question, does the slot go all the way through the bridge plate so that when viewed from the top I can see a 'keyhole'? I haven't had the opportunity to look at a slotted bridge in service and on the finished bridges I've bought with slots, the slots don't go much below the countersink chamfer.
Thanks, folks.
