Doublenecks Anyone ?

Post by davidw » Sat Feb 11, 2012 1:48 am

Hello out there in guitarland ! I'm thinking of building a double neck accoustic - jumbo body, zebra wood back & sides, sitka top with a 6 string 14 fret neck on top and a 12 fret 12 string on bottom, so the necks would be about the same overall length. Does anyone have experience with these animals? Any idea how to brace for this many strings? Help! thanks, Dave

Quite ambitious, good luck with that one!

Wow. That is really all I can say! I found a few pix on google images just to see what we are talking about, and there are a few approaches to it. I suppose you would want to approach a couple of those builders to see if they will share some advice?

Now that looks like fun to build.....you got me thinkin!
So, my big brother was playing guitar and I figured I'd try it too.

I realize it isn't an acoustic...but this is my favorite double deck of all time and just had to post a pic...I've thought of trying to build an acoustic using this as a guide and trying to capture the flare of this wonderful guitar.
I grew up around Semie Moseley of Mosrite guitars fame and I've actually played this guitar...it just has that something special going for it...and so did he. I was a kid and I just didn't have brains enough to pay attention.

Was it really heavy? I saw Steve Vai playing a THREE neck guitar and he was starting to sweat.
