Okay, so I can't stop! This was a very good deal. It has some rust, but should clean up very nicely.
It is a Millers Falls #8 - same size as a Stanley #3. It is a Type 2 First Production, which means it was made between 1936 and 1941. It has Cocobolo knob and tote which look to be fully intact.
The markings on the iron would indicate an early production for the type as it has the marking of the Type 1 which were made between 1929 and 1936.
I really like these Millers Falls planes, In my opinion they are every bit as good as the Stanleys of the same era, and the later types, even those made after the WWII I think are far better than the Stanleys after the war.
I now have a #8, #9, #11 and a #18. Comparable to Stanley #3, #4, #5 1/4 and #6. I will be looking for a #14, same as the Stanley #5.
Once I get this one all clean and tuned up I'll post some pictures. I have many good winter projects now!
