Acoustic Guitar Construction

Its time for me to invest in a decent vise. I have a typical woodworking vise and a small regular vise. What recommendations do you have? Is the parrot vise going to do it for me? Grizzly seems to have a good price on these. Or should I bite the bullet and go for the big red patternmaker's vise from the big Ohio guys?

If there is already a thread for this, just point me in the right direction! Thanks for the input!

I purchase 2 parrot vises and they both broke. I interchanged parts nd now have one tht works. I have the "big red" vise as well. I use the red one about 10 times more than the parrot vise.

I find the pattern makers' vice to be incredibly useful. I got one on a crazy sale at Wood Craft a few years ago, and then upgraded the jaw bolts with the bits from Stew Mac - so its a big of a hybrid. When the Green Woodcraft is not on sale, the Stew Mac looks like an even better deal.

I use the pattern maker vice everyday usually for multiple tasks. I do use the parrot vice but mostly for little things like cutting a rebate for the bridge plate into braces for classical fan braces, the slot in the xbrace. Also I use it to hold my very little brace when shaping a nut or saddle. I have yet to lay the pattern vice on its side, but that does seem like it should be handy.
