Irish Bouzouki

Post by John J » Tue Oct 11, 2016 10:27 pm

With my curiosity up after seeing Mr. Bagwill's Newzouki build I read up on the Irish Bouzouki. I hadn't heard of it before. So knowing nothing about them I decided to build one. Plans based on Graham McDonald's book.

Very cool -- rosette free-hand routing?

Thanks guys. I suppose if this were more than a one time design I could of made templates and used guide bearings. But I just used my dremel and the StewMac base and crept up to the lines. I figured it would be easier to build the rosette with purfling separately and then rout the channel. I put the rosette together one night and then inlaid it the next. First time with redwood.

A little more progress. Top and back are braced and the neck is glued up and truss rod slotted. First time with this style bracing. I'm going with a laminated neck of mahogany with a walnut/maple/walnut.

It looks like you're following the plans in the book, good work.

Nicely done! Amazingly clean craftsmanship! I love the picture of the top braces.
