Acoustic Guitar Construction

Dear All,
I am a first time builder (for guitar). I was really glad that I came across Ken's website and amazed by his detail on-line instruction.
I have been fancying an all mahogany guitar, so I ordered an all Honduran mahogany OM kit and the mega mold from KMG.
First of all, thank you Ken for making this wonderful kit and all of your helpful comments and advice.

I am very very excited about this build and will be documenting this build in this post.

I don't have a shop. So, I have been building many ukuleles and this OM kit on my dining table with mostly hand tools. It is challenging, but a lot of fun.
If you have any comments and advice, please don't hesitate to tell me. This is how we learn and grow.

First, the rims were trimmed and fit into the mega mold.


Carefully following to instruction and gluing the tail and neck blocks to the rim.

Gluing the kerfling to the rim.

Both top and back kerfing are glued in.

Now getting ready to install the side reinforcement.

I am so glad that Ken actually sent me the matching side reinforcement and the kerfing. I love the idea of all mahogany look.

It's looking good so far. Very neat and clean.

Now, finally got sometime to post more pictures.

The herringbone rosette was installed. The top sound board is a very beautiful Honduran mahogany.


Working on contouring the tail and neck block (at the back sided).

After this, I will be working on sanding and contouring the back side of the rims.

That top is going to be beautiful under finish. What at your plans there?

Looking good. The guitar is starting to come together.

Ditto what the others said about your top and clean work....very nice. IMHO, starting out in a small space and being forced to learn using hand tools will really pay off. You are having to be organized and to develop skills with hand tools. I have deliberately remained with hand tools whenever I can avoid my power tools as an alternative. I love power tools but I think that hand tools give you a much more intimate experience with the material as you build. Anyway, have fun. I hope that you will post a recording of the guitar at the end of its construction.
