Acoustic Guitar Construction

I purchased a mold for the Ditson instruments I've been building - from Ken Cierp; normally since it is his product I would just contact him but this may be a good general interest item as well.

The mold works fine, no complaints. But I am looking for a method of temporarily modifying the mold, giving more definition to the waist area for certain Ditson's I'm going to build. Not much; about 1/4" at each waist side for a 1/2" total narrower waist.

I think this is trickier than it sounds, but I hope I'm mistaken.

Any ideas?

I'd to cut the insert pieces (or whatever you'd call them)and temporarily attached them to the mold with something like 1 or 1 1/4" dry wall screws (counter sunk).

Attach (tape) a spacer (Popsicle sticks) to the inner most waist curve to get the new profile. ust a piece of aluminum the height of the mold about a foot or so long (one for each side) sape one end to the inside of the mold --smooth it over shim -- tape the other end, then carefully file the gap with additional shims the appropriate thickness. Then add more tape to hold the aluminum in place. You could use plastic or veneer too.
