Thickness Gauge or Caliper

Post by John DiMaggio » Mon Jun 20, 2016 1:05 pm

What is everyone using for measuring thickness of tops, bottoms, sides etc.?

Usual luthier tool suppliers want a small fortune for calipers with long jaws.

I use these. I got mine a few years ago at Woodcraft for about $25. These work just fine with plenty of reach for measuring your tops, backs and sides, etc.

Ken,

Thanks for the ideas on building your own.

Here is what I came up with.

The 12 in deep throat C-Clamp was $25.00 on The Bay. The gauge was $15.00.
