Got this plane this morning at the local flea market. Never seen one like it before. The iron has Taylor & Lyon on it. It is in really great shape, but obvious that the tote has a break in it since it's taped up. Quite unique and different than the Stanley style planes. Patented date on the iron is July 4, 1876.
Little bit of research shows this was probably made after 1888 because of the molded rubber tote.

Looks to be in OK shape as well.

It is. I did discover the front knob is supposed to turn, loosen the bolt so the adjustable throat can be moved, but the knob is turning on an insert so it just spins. I'll have to figure out a good way to grab the bolt end ( it is sticking up a tad), hopefully it will turn freely so I can take the knob off and fix that issue. This plane has a 2 1/8" iron so it is wider than a Stanley #5, almost like a 5 1/2.

There is something about an old plane that says "Fix me", "Love me".
