Harbor freight possibility?

I handled one of these at HF today - on sale for $13 I think.
I wonder if it would be a good tool for spot-softening of glue joints or some other luthier applications?

975 degrees? Seems a bit hot for softening glue.

Maybe you can use a controller for the temp.

Looks like it has a built in temp control -- but an external dimmer to tweak seems like a good idea.
