What do you recommend for cutting the end of your fretboard blank - having trued on long side, I just want a perfectly clean and perpendicular cut. Don't have a table saw.
Something under $100. Don't say handsaw - Dave is not that good.:-)

We tried one of the inexpensive compound miter saws when our big radial arm saw died. Actually come to think of it, two different brands -- both had very sloppy slide bearings. Ended up with third try, a Hitachi 8" it was pretty pricey but first rate in quality.

Anyway just make sure there is no play in the motion.

If you have a disc sander you can use that to true up the end. I use the disc sander a lot for that sort of thing and it works quite well.

I do have a small 5" disc sander, but it's cheap and feeding the stock exactly perpendicular to the sander is almost impossible. Would really like a better one. Good idea, though.

I use the same gent saw and setup that I use to cut the fret slots I just go deeper. My guess is the miter saw can be setup to work.

When I use my disc sander I clamp a block to the table and square it up. I feed the material in against the block so it will be perfectly square. A five inch disc might just be big enough. Feed it until it is square and don't force it at the end so the inner part of the disc can catch up with the outer part.

Did it Jim, worked fine. Good point about the different sanding speeds on the disk.
